Exposing Legacy Mainframe Data with Apache Ignite
Many industries are undertaking transformation and modernization initiatives for legacy systems to deliver new functionality and features faster. In many cases, these legacy systems are built on mainframes that are essential to the daily operations of a business, supporting all core transactions and batch processing. Exposing this critical data to the cloud and other distributed platforms can be challenging and is rarely achieved in real time. In this talk, we will look at M&T’s implementation of the Z Digital Integration Hub and our architecture and approach to exposing our mission critical data from legacy mainframe systems with an efficient and real-time event-based information flow leveraging GridGain for z/OS and IBM Data Virtualization Manager for z/OS. GridGain for z/OS is an enterprise-grade in-memory computing platform based on Apache Ignite and optimized for use on z/OS mainframes systems. This approach to modernizing legacy systems can be used to enable effective interaction between core systems and cloud platforms without the disruptive aspects of migration or large scale data movement.
