Lightning Fast Flight Searches on Expedia Using Apache Ignite

Expedia Group is a leading global travel platform. Flight searches on our platform are executed on a read-heavy system with peak search traffic regularly in the range of thousands of transactions per second, so caching is a natural requirement. Our caching solution was powered by Apache Cassandra, and it served our requirements for many years. This session is about our journey of moving the caching layer to Apache Ignite. We achieved significant improvements in cache fetch time using off-heap reads, server-side computing, binary objects, and affinity collocation.
